Industrial and Regional Economic Research Center of Jimei University is one of the first batch of Humanities and social sciences research bases in Amoy. Since its establishment, it has been set up with three missions of talent training, academic research and social service. It commits to building a certain influential talent training base of regional economics, a research base of frontier academic issues and a professional base of serving the society.
The main research fields include regional economy, frontier of industrial economy theory, metropolitan cooperation and development, cross-strait regional economic cooperation, urban governance and development, urbanization, headquarters economy development, industrial cluster development strategy, the development of integrating Amoy into one belt one road, regional investment and financing system and related policies of the free trade zone. In addition, the research center also provides consulting services for local economic development decisions, including development strategies of regional economy, economic zones, Hi-tech Zone, free trade zone and characteristic industrial zone, strategic emerging industries, and modern service industry.
The research center has six academic innovation teams, namely regional economics, industrial economics, finance, investment, international trade and finance. The College of Finance and Economics on which the base relies has 89 full-time teachers, including 15 professors and 32 associate professors. There are 47 teachers with doctor's degree and studying for doctor's degree. The professional structure is reasonable, young and energetic. The research center adheres to major regional practical problems as the main direction, attaches equal importance to basic research and applied research, and adheres to the close combination of scientific research and social services, so as to build an important innovation base for regional economic research and practice.
In recent years, the research center has established a good cooperative relationship with relevant government departments by using frontier research methods of regional economy and industrial economy. It focuses on the regional economic development of Fujian Province and Amoy City, the cooperation and development of xiazhangquan metropolitan area, and the development of the economic zone on the West side of the Taiwan Strait. It has achieved fruitful results. It has published more than 30 papers in academic journals at home and abroad, such as Economic Perspectives, Southeast Academic Research, Fujian Tribune, and Zhejiang Academic Journal. In addition, many achievements have been reprinted by Xinhua Digest and China Social Science Excellence. They have won the awards for outstanding achievements in Social Sciences of Fujian Province and Amoy city. It has undertaken a number of consulting projects, such as the major projects in the early stage of the 13th five year plan of Fujian Province, the projects in the early stage of the 13th five year plan of Amoy City, the key special planning of the 13th five year plan of Fujian Province, and the key projects in the humanities and social sciences of Amoy city. Some research results on the construction of free trade zone have been approved by the provincial leaders, which has formed a good influence in the academic circles.
