The Research Center for local financial performance of Jimei University was jointly established by Jimei University and Fujian Provincial Department of finance in April 2014 with research object of local financial performance. In July 2014, the research center was selected as the first batch of philosophical and social sciences research bases in Fujian Province; In June 2017, it became a new type of think tank with characteristics of Fujian Province. In April 2018, it was approved by the Chinese Financial Society and became the research base of the Performance Management Research Committee of the Chinese financial society. In September 2019, it became the construction unit of "performance management think tank of financial budget" of Fujian Provincial Department of finance.

The research center aims at improving local financial performance and promoting local economic development. It takes the provincial, municipal and county level local financial performance as the research object, and conducts research around the frontier theory and practical needs in the local financial operation, which provides reference for the scientific decision-making of local governments. After years of research and practice, the research center has formed three distinctive research directions: the theoretical research of local financial performance, the evaluation of local financial performance, the study of local financial operation and regional economic development.

The research center has a team of young and middle-aged teachers, high education and professional background researchers. The team has 40 members, including 10 professors, 11 associate professors and 36 has Ph. D. The research center also employs more than 20 experts from related fields as part-time researchers. Since 2014, the research team members have presided over 6 national level scientific research projects, 3 provincial major projects, 3 provincial key projects, 37 provincial and ministerial level general projects, more than 20 major projects of provincial social science base and more than 200 horizontal projects. The research center has published more than 160 research papers (SSCI 3, CSSCI 66) such as Public Finance Research, Accounting Research and Taxation Research, and 29 publications in the important academic journals. These research and achievements have been highly evaluated by relevant departments, and have won the excellent social sciences achievement awards of Ministry of finance, Fujian Province and Amoy City for many times. Meanwhile, due to the unique contribution to social services in the field of local financial performance for a long time, the center has formed a widespread impact in Fujian Province.
