West Coast Economic operation efficiency and risk assessment research center of Jimei University is a research base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Fujian colleges and Universities. There are 58 full-time and part-time researchers, including 8 professors, 39 associate professors and 38 doctors.

The research center is committed to the high-level research on the economic and strategic problems faced by the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits, especially the xiazhangquan economic zone. The task is to systematically explore the special advantages and key problems faced by the development of the economic zone, grasp its situation and context in an all-round way, provide information and help for its formation and decision-making, and promote academic exchanges with relevant research institutions at home and abroad. At the same time, as the a base of Humanities and Social Sciences in Fujian colleges and Universities, it also undertakes an important task to build high-level scientific research team and innovation team, build characteristic research base and cross strait exchange platform.

All main research areas related to the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits includes policy issues in the financial and tax fields, financial market supervision and cooperation, risk assessment and control of investment and financing projects, industrial structure, industrial development strategy and policy, and the way to avoid foreign trade and economic risks. In recent years, Research center have published 467 papers in academic journals at home and abroad such as Public Finance Research, Macroeconomics, Journal of Financial Research, Accounting Research, Auditing Research, Review of Investment Studies, Southeast Academic Research, Journal of International Trade, Finance & Trade Economics, Fujian Tribune, and 16 academic monographs in the academic journals. It has won 126 projects at all levels, including more than 40 projects under research, including national and provincial level projects. Thirty-four scientific research achievements have been awarded the Excellent Achievements Award of Fujian Province and Amoy social science level successively, which reflects the high scientific research ability and level, and has gradually grown into an important scientific research force in the research of the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits.

 In the construction and academic activities, the research center has always adhered to the positioning requirements of "basing local, facing nation and serving industries". It insisted on application research, and the principle of basing local, serving local, actively integrating into local economic and social development. It faces the main battlefield of economic construction, and makes a deep theoretical exploration and research in the light of the new situation and problems in the economic reform and opening up of China and the development of the economic zone. Most of the research projects undertaken are the theoretical and practical problems in the development process of economic and social in Fujian Province. It establishes a good cooperative research relationship with Amoy development research center and Zhangzhou Local Taxation Bureau. These research projects has achieved good economic results, and been widely recognized by social public, and laid a solid foundation for further study on the economic zone on the west coast of the Taiwan Straits.
