Academic Master of Applied Economics can be traced back to Commercial Specialties, Jimei School, which was founded by Tan Kah Kee, the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader, in Aug.1920. And the program has now become one of the Fujian Provincial Top Disciplines. In 2004, it started to enroll postgraduates of national economics, and in the year of 2011, it was approved as one of the national projects for the first-class undergraduate program development, under which there are five research fields—regional economics, public finance, finance, industrial economics and international trade. It has a full-time teaching staff of 16, among whom 21 professors, 25 associate professors, thus the teachers with senior professional titles account for 75%; there are 47 teachers with PH.D., taking up 78%; there are 2 municipal top talents, one provincial pioneering talent of social science. And 11 members have been elected the Excellent New Century Talents in University, 1 Outstanding Young Scientific Researcher of Fujian, and 1 Top Talent in Xiamen. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the program takes its root in the Xiamen Special Economic Zone, adapting itself to the need of "One Belt One Road" Initiative. It devotes itself to the application research. While at the same time, it attaches importance to the establishment of research platforms, such as Center for Performance Study of Finance of Local Administration, Center for Industrial and Regional Economy, Center for Financial Asset Allocation and Management. On the whole, the program serves the local economy wholeheartedly and its efforts have turned out to be fruitful.
