The Institute of marine industrial economy of Jimei University mainly focuses on the research of marine emerging industries. It has four research centers, namely, marine development strategy research center, modern marine fishery research center, marine tourism research center and shipping economy research center. The president is Professor Huang Yangping, and the vice presidents are Professor Chen Lei and Professor Lin Yuanyuan. The research institute is equipped with two full-time auxiliary personnel. The Institute is committed to building the Institute into an important marine economic science research base, talent-training base, technology exchange and information sharing base, and business consulting service center in Fujian Province, providing intellectual support for building Fujian Province into a strong marine economic province with distinctive characteristics.

 In recent years, in accordance with the overall plan of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government on innovation driven development strategy and the strategy of building a strong marine province, the Institute of marine industry economics has actively promoted the integration of "government, industry, university and research" system. At present, it has become a member of the think tank alliance of Amoy southern marine research center. It has undertaken research tasks such as "subject plan for the development of marine strategic emerging industries in Fujian Province during the 14th five year plan" and “Three year action plan of Amoy marine economic development”. It has undertaken nearly 40 national, provincial and ministerial level projects, more than 70 horizontal research projects, and published more than 170 scientific research papers.
